Features
Steel is the traditional material for gauge blocks. Gauges made from steel can provide many years of useful life if used and looked after carefully. They must me cleaned carefully after use, stored in a dry environment and be protected against corrosion.
Opus steel gauge blocks are manufactured from special selected steels and carefully machined to provide gauges of the highest quality, all gauges have the following characteristics

  • Highly alloyed steel
  • Hardness to greater than 63 Rc
  • Aged and stress relieved to promote stability
  • Sets housed in a quality wooden case

Tungsten Carbide Gauge Block

Features

Tungsten carbide is an excellent material to manufacture gauge blocks from. Opus tungsten carbide gauge blocks are extremely accurate, stable and have excellent wringing characteristics. Each gauge is manufactured from carefully selected materials having a hardness of approximately 1500 Hv, they set standards of surface finish that are beyond materials such as steel. Opus has developed production techniques to ensure a micro-fine surface on every tungsten carbide gauge block that it produces. The Opus finish guarantees excellent wringing characteristics and a high resistance to wear. Opus tungsten carbide gauge blocks are rigorously checked for flatness of their measuring surfaces using a laser flatness interferometer.

Long Series Gauge Block

Model
Gauges can be supplied as individuals or in sets and are available in Grades 2 to K.  The standard ML8 set comprises of 125, 150 175, 200, 250, 300, 400 and 500 mm gauges.
Features
Opus long series steel gauge blocks are carefully manufactured to ISO:3650:1998 from specially selected steel. They have a standard gauge block cross-section of 35mm x 9mm and are available in sizes ranging from 125mm to 1000mm. Each gauge has clamping holes towards both ends for use with Opus toggle clamps so that combination lengths can be achieved both easily and safely.

Toggle Clamp
Opus toggle clamps are specially designed for ease of use with long series gauge blocks.  Two pins locate on the gauge block holes, a firm sideways pressure on the clamp will snap the clamp into the closed position bringing the gauging faces together and locking them into position. The clamp is released by sideways pressure in the opposite direction. The pin and hence the clamping pressure can be adjusted by means of an adjusting screw on the end of the clamp.

Opus ceramic gauge blocks (Zirco-Blocks) are manufactured from an exceptionally pure grade of zirconia ceramic. The commonly held belief that all ceramic materials are brittle and prone to catastrophic failure can now be dispelled with the remarkable zirconia ceramic material which used to manufacture Opus Zirco-Blocks blocks. Opus Zirco-Blocks are an effective substitute for the traditional steel gauge blocks and out perform them in many applications.The exceptional material combined with Opus’s specially developed lapping techniques and strict quality control produces a gauge of exceptional quality and value Main features include:

  • Coefficient of thermal expansion close to steel
  • Good abrasion resistance – up to 10 times that of steel
  • Very high corrosion resistance
  • High thermal stability – does not react quickly to handling

Opus Ceramic Tipped Gauge Blocks are manufactured to the tolerances of  EN ISO:3650:1998. The body of the gauge block is made from high quality stabilised steel, the tips are made from an exceptionally pure grade of Zirconia ceramic material. Key Benefits of Opus Ceramic Tipped Gauge Blocks

OPUS Angle Gauges

Opus Angle Gauges are available as thin series gauges 50mm x 9mm or to NPL Specification MOY/SCMI/18 combination angle gauges.  
Features
Both styles are made from high quality steel and hardened to 800 Hv (64 Rc) Minimum.  Each gauge is lapped with a superior, highly reflective, wringable finish.  Flatness of each lapped face is 0.2 µm or less and the faces are square to the ground sides within 2 µm. Angle is controlled to ± 2 seconds of arc.
Precision Balls

Features
Calibrated precision balls are used in a wide range of applications including in the measurement of small internal tapers, internal annular grooves and throated worm wheels. Each standard set of balls contains a range of sizes, with three matched balls per size.  The main features of Opus precision balls are as follows:

Engineer’s Parallels

Features
Opus Engineer’s Parallels are manufactured to BS 906 Parts 1 & 2, Metric and Imperial Parallels are available as Grade A or Grade B. Grade A is intended for precision applications such as in an inspection department. Grade B is intended more general tool-room type applications. Both grades are made from high quality steel and hardened to 800 Hv (64 Rc), stress relieved and stabilised.
Precision Cubes

Features
Opus Precision Cubes can be used as a general purpose reflector and for providing a 90 degree angle standard in three planes for setting or checking perpendiculars.
